Deal or No Deal

Visit the NBC version of 'Deal or No Deal' and play a game (should take no more than 5 minutes).  You should note how this experience differs from the television production in terms of atmosphere, hype and emotion.  Using your notes, and the deconstruction of the television program done in class, post a comment that explains how the television program is constructed to highly engage its audience.

"Deal Or No Dea" is a gameshow primarily constructed to engage its audience through the effectice use of setting, music, special effects and making a connection with both the host and contestant.
In comparison to the televiswion program, the in class version appears unexciting, not as engaging or 'real'. The live audience and personal connection with the contestant causes us to feel as if we are really there instead of sitting alone in our homes. The melodramatic host is a tool used to build excitement and hype much the same way the music and special effects do. without these added features and setting, the game is not as appealing or engaging and we feel much less involved even though it is us playing.

The TV show uses special effects, lots of talking, lights and the atmosphere to engage and audience, where as when playing by yourself, without the risk, with out the crowd and with out all the hype the game becomes average and boring. In the TV show, the host becomes melodramatic and over-the-top to try and hook us into the show.

Deal or No Deal is an emotional journey for the contestant and the viewers. At the begininnig of the show, the host interviews the contestant so we get to know them, and feel for them as they proceed through their journey. Andrew Okeife adds suspense and his character gives the game alot more hype to engage the audience and capture their attention. The atmosphere is produced from the audience and the host, who encourages the contestant to go further and the viewers who push the contestant to continue, as they dont have to deal with the pressure.

playing the game of deal or no deal is accually quite boring, although in the tv show where there is real money involved and the presenter, Andrew o'keefe making the show as exiting as possible, you caan tell why people would engage in the tv show becasue there is an on going wait to see wether the contestant will take the deal or risk there chances in either getting a higher sum of money or losing it all.

In my opinion the producers of Deal or No Deal have used the host to keep an audience. The host acts in an extremely annoying and fruitish way which creates a burning passion in the viewer to make him feel pain. The viewer there for continues watching the program in the hope that he will disperse personal details about himself, eg. his home address or where he parks his car of a morning. Once this personal information is retrieved by the viewer he/she will generally react in an extremely violent manner in the hope of causing as much physical pain possible upon the host.

The television version of "Deal or No Deal" utilises many different effcts and tactics. These range from flashing lights, superimposed logos to the show's host. Each of these effects has an impact on the overall atmosphere of the program. If the set was left dark and colourless, the mood of the show would be much darker and it wouldn't be a very "happy" show to watch. The program's name and logo are frequently flashed across the screen, to reinforce the show. Voiceovers are often used to accompany this which generally try to promote audience particpation in the program. Perhaps the most important factor for this show's success, is the personality and role of the host. He is presented as a friendly man who is genuinely interested in the contestant's life and ambitions. He makes the contestants feel at home and calms them so that they can focus on their task. If the program didn't have any of these features, it wouldn't be very successful: it would have the same atmosphere as the online game.

without the concern of actually losing 1million dollars your just left with the desire of getting to the end of the game. there is no hesitation, no strategies and no risk of really losing. without the whole atmosphere of the host and audience there is no smalltalk needed which would usually slow down the game.

The television prgram of deal or no deal highly engages it's audience through a variety of different factors. The host, Andrew O'Keefe acts like your friend, someone you can rely on throughout the game. The live audience creates an engaging and exciting atmosphere for the contestant making the show much more intersting. What probably makes the atmosphere most exciting is knowing that you are playing for real money that you can really get.

The TV production of "Deal or No Deal" uses special effects, music, and a melodramatic host to create a suspenseful atmosphere. Andrew O'Keefe makes conversation with the contestant to fill in time and create empathy towards him/her. The music and sound effects build tension to keep the audience hanging on. In the NBC version of the game, none of these effects are used, and there is no host to waste time, so the audience/contestant does not have time to 'freak out' and get stressed about their decisiongs.

the channel 7 tv series, 'deal or no deal' uses a wide range of visual and oral techniques to highly engadge the audience in the game. the set and lighting, is brightly coloured and primaraly gold themed, giving a sence of wealth and prosparity. Music setts the mood and convays to the audience what the contestant is feeling, e.g a heart beat sound slowly increasing when a decision is to be made. special effects are added after filming, they let the audience at home watch what is going on between the contestant and host but also allow them to stay informed about the game.

The television program deal or no deal engages their audience by the connection between the host and the contestant. The music is very upbeat and creates suspense as to what case the contestant will choose next and if they will answer the question that the show is based on 'deal or no deal.' The live audience is involved in the show the whole time because they are in the deala drome as the host Andrew o Keefe describes it as. The audience becomes connected with the contestant and wants them to succeed. The host spends the first five or so minutes asking the contestant to describe the story of there life, this is the point where the audience decides if they like or dislike the contestant.

In the television program, 'Deal or No Deal', the setting, music and host all add to the success of the program. The setting engages its audience with the use of imagery and particular colour scenes. The image of a vault represents money and the colours of green and gold are draped all over the set. These images and colours make the audience feel like you are in a wealthy environment. The music also helps engage the audience. The upbeat tempo of the music creates tension and drama which keeps the audience interested in what is going on. The host makes the audience feel involved by over exaggerating many facts about the contestant. This makes us feel as though we personally know the contestant and feel sympathy for them.

Audience engagement is achieved by the hype, emotion and atmosphere. These aspects of the game show capture the audience's attention and allows them to feel as though they are involved with the game. The hype of the show draws in the audience and makes them feel the excitement and emotions of the show. The emotions draw in the viewer and allow them to become excited and feel as though they are in the arena and a main part of the show.

Like many TV shows, 'Deal or No Deal' makes use of a variety of techniques to grab the attention of the audience.

One technique they use would be the melodramatic host. His behaviour, though annoying for some, is still hard to ignore and makes us pay attention whenever he speaks.

Music and Sound Effects are also often used to grab the attention of the audience, such as the 'heartbeat' heard when the cases are being picked, which sub-consiously generates a nervous feeling for most people.

Deal or no deal, the game is a lot less exciting than the game show that is televised on channel 7. This is because of the atmosphere that is created with a live audience and a host. It is a lot less tense in the game online as you are not playing with real money. Instead we are just trying to have fun. The hype created by the host creates utter emotions throughout the contestants which makes them have much more fun with the TV show. When one is playing the game online the hype is not there hence the it is a lot less exciting.

Deal or No Deal is a show completely dedicated to bringing in viewers. It is built and set up in such a way as to get the most amount of viewers at a single time. Even the stage is set up to help bring the audience into the show. Andrew O'Keefe and the contestant stand in the centre of the stage with the stands of people surrounding them, giving every audience member an equal chance to see and contribute to the show. Unlike the game where you are there by yourselfwith virtual money, the atmosphere and question from Andrew draw the show our from a quick 5 minute game into a full half hour show full of tension and bad humour.

The producers of Deal Or No Deal engage the audience through the setting, music, host etc. the host gets to know the contestant and therefore lets us the viewers know about the contestant as well. As the game goes on and the stakes get higher the viewers are engaged more and want to see the end result. the queer host gives the program excitement which gains the viewers attention and keeps them watching.

"Deal or No Deal" uses many features to engage the audience and create a pleasant atmosphere. A combination of special effects, the personality of the host, the emotions of the contestant and the tense music help to create the atmosphere. Without these freatures the show would be dull and boring. It also uses various techniques to involve the audience as much as possible.

The game show 'Deal or No Deal' engages the audience to travel on an emotional journey with the contestant. Using music, setting, special effects and the information the host distributes about himself and the contestant participating in the game, the boundary between whats happening in the television and the viewer watching the program is broken. Purely because the viewer knows so much about the contestant, the viewer feels empathy for the contestants situation and feels emotion when either the contestant wins a big amount of money, or looses a big amount of money. This is a good way of 'hooking' the viewer to the show, because they also feel the pressure that the contestant is feeling.

'Deal or No Deal', is a and the televisions program, which takes the contestants and the audiences through a emotional rollercoaster as the contestant gambles the money they are trying to win. The setting, showing the whole studio as gold to represent money, music, representing an upbeat and heart beat sound, and special effects add to the empathy the audiences show for the contestant, as well as including themselves in that game. The host has face-to-face conversations with the contestant so the audiences can learn about the contestant's life and their personality.

The television program "Deal or No Deal" utilizes the music and special effects to create a suspensful and tense atmosphere. Andrew O'Keefe, the host, talks to the contestants and finds out a brief life story to create empathy for him/ her. The music gives it the 'BAM!' factor, and will speed up or slow down to match the mood and create more suspense, especially when a deal is offered. The special effects keep you clued in to the game, while still being able to see what is going on, and the rolling of the numbers builds up the suspense and tension in the audience. When you are playing the game, these effects are gone, which cmakes a short, uninteresting game, and because we all know its not real money we don't really consider the consequences. The TV program uses these techniques to create a half hour long show that keeps you interested and excited for what is going to happen.

In 'Deal or No Deal' the setting, music, host, contestant and special effects all contribute to creating an exciting atmosphere that allows the audience to become involved in the game and capture their attention. The music sets the tone of the show; it can be slow and dense to create tension and suspense or fast upbeat music at the beginning of the show to excite viewers. The large studio that the game is set in engages the audience as the contestant and host are centered on the podium while the live audience is positioned around them to create a lively atmosphere. The host Andrew O'Keefe is overly dramatic and very positive and enthusiastic to keep the audience entertained. The host spends time getting to know the contestant so that we as the audience can get to know them and makes connections to them so that they can feel empathy for the contestant in stressful situations. We are able to see the contestant's emotions and see our human instincts take over as the contestant continues for more money. Special effects in the show adds hype and gets the viewers involved. All these components are added together to engage the audience and entertain them.
